Core sample conveyors: heavy-duty handling for harsh environments

Getting core to the lab is only half the battle. In every exploration and analysis operation, the real test is keeping trays moving smoothly from logging to cutting, sampling and storage – without delays, damage or excessive manual handling.

Core sample conveyors might look like ‘support equipment’, but they directly influence productivity and safety. A well-designed core tray handling system reduces lifting and awkward carries, keeps workstations supplied at a steady pace, and helps teams maintain consistent workflows when volumes surge. That’s why Adept Conveyors treats core sample conveyor systems as critical infrastructure: engineered for reliability, built for heavy-duty service and configured to suit the way your site operates.

Adept designs, manufactures, installs and commissions core tray bench arrays throughout Australia, thanks to capabilities for in-house engineering and full CAD system design. From a single conveyor section to a fully integrated bench array, Adept systems are built around robust static- and gravity-conveying equipment that delivers low-inertia movement of items and easy operation for all staff – often with no external power source required. The result is an economical system design with low startup costs and, because there’s very little to maintain, a low total cost of ownership. Being manufactured in Australia makes for short lead times and flexibility for special requests.

The Adept product range is designed around the realities of sample rooms and core sheds, and includes:

  • straight roller or skate wheel beds (standard lengths: 1500 millimetres and 3000 millimetres, with custom sizing available)
  • split and tapered roller curves
  • personnel access gates
  • merges and diverges
  • junctions
  • turntables
  • multidirectional roller tables.

For transitions between levels and effective ergonomics, Adept also supplies:

  • lift tables (spring-assisted or hydraulic)
  • elevating conveyors
  • transfer cars and shuttles
  • vertical elevators for core trays or pallets.

To help you fine-tune flow control and keep trays protected and aligned, Adept has additional accessories, such as:

  • rocker stops
  • barrier end stops
  • speed control devices
  • guide rails.

In mining environments, finish selection matters as much as mechanical design. Dust, moisture, washdowns and corrosive atmospheres can quickly turn a ‘standard’ conveyor into a maintenance headache. Adept offers finishes to suit harsh conditions, including:

  • powdercoating, which adds a tough, uniform outer layer and can support colour identification
  • hot-dip galvanising, which is Adept’s most requested standard finish, and provides long-term corrosion protection through a zinc coating that can continue protecting steel even where minor damage occurs
  • powder over galvanising or zinc primer, which is for when you want both colour and maximum durability. This dual approach can extend coating maintenance cycles
  • stainless steel options are also available on request.

Ultimately, a core sample conveyor system should make your work easier, faster and safer every day. If you’re upgrading a sample facility or planning a new build, talk to Adept about a tailored, heavy-duty configuration that will stand the test of time.
