Elphinstone has raised the standard in underground haul road maintenance with the recently released EG20 underground grader.
The role of the underground grader is to prepare and maintain quality haul and access roads with adequate drainage, while significantly increasing haulage productivity, reducing tyre wear, increasing component life, and boosting speed on grade.
Superseding the UG20K and UG20M series, the EG20 incorporates all Cat 120 standard upgrades and redesigned Elphinstone modifications, improving operator safety, ergonomics, comfort, and view of the blade.
When conditions get tough, the robust frame, work tools and powertrain of the EG20 gets the work done.
The drawbar features hardened and durable circle teeth, while blade lift cylinder accumulators reduce blade bounce and damage to the blade components. Optional factory fit rippers are available to assist with the grading of roadway surfaces.
Powered by the C7.1 ACERT Tier 3 engine arrangement using Caterpillar’s breakthrough ACERT technology to meet exhaust emission standards, the engine boasts efficient fuel delivery and air management, providing outstanding performance, lower emissions, longer service life, and electronic control for high productivity.
The C7.1 ACERT Tier 4 Final Stage V engine arrangement is optional for more stringent emission standards.
Other features include electronic throttle control, variable horsepower plus (VHP Plus), and engine over‑speed protection to prevent downshifting until a safe travel speed is established.
The EG20 enclosed cab features a rollover protection system or falling object protection system, providing a quiet environment with low vibration levels to reduce operator fatigue.
Operator comfort is enhanced with an air-conditioning system, low-effort pedals and controls, adjustable implement controls, adjustable steering wheel angle and seat, improved leg room across the spine, and additional storage, including cup holders on both sides of the cab, all providing a comfortable work environment.
The digital instrument cluster – with easy-to-read, high‑visibility warning lamps – features gauges for engine coolant temperature, articulation, voltage, and fuel level, along with a speedometer, a tachometer, an hour meter, and a backlit transmission shifter and rocker switches.
Safety features include a ground-level engine shut‑off switch and refuelling, laminated glass windows, door and seatbelt park brake interlocks with visual and audible detection alarms, hydraulic brakes, ground-level emergency stops and fire suppression actuators, a seatbelt cutter, a robust rear-guard, and a front counterweight for machine balance.
High-visibility green grab rails and steps, brake and backup lights, alarms, and blade and rear-view cameras combine to ensure a safe work environment.
Cat Product Link and VisionLink are standard, providing location, machine hours, fuel usage, productivity, idle time, diagnostic codes, and machine data to improve job site efficiency and lower operating costs.
Ground-level access to refuelling and grouped service points make operation, maintenance and servicing safer and faster, while enhanced diagnostics and monitoring help to minimise downtime.
All Elphinstone products, technical assistance, support and spare parts are available through the global Cat dealer network.
